Ask Your Doctor About Aquatic Therapy

DSCN1768Physical therapy can be incredibly rewarding, but anything worth doing comes with challenges. When your muscles ache, or your movement is restricted by injury and pain, facing PT can be daunting.

In some cases aquatic therapy – physical therapy exercises done in water – can be very beneficial to your process. At Bright STAR’s aquatic therapy facility in North Hollywood, the warm water relaxes your muscles and helps them stretch as soon as you get into the pool. The water’s buoyancy decreases pressure on your joints. Movement seems easier. Resistance comes from your movement through the water.

Doctors will often refer patients to us whom they feel may benefit from aquatic therapy, and once they are seen, they may cross over to “land therapy” too. The opposite happens as well – patients come to our “dry land” offices and we consult with their physicians to treat them in the water if we feel it will help. More and more physicians are discovering our aquatic facility in North Hollywood, where we are continually developing new programs and therapies that can take place in the water.

So as you are discussing your treatment plan with your doctor, consider aquatic therapy. Remember the pool. It’s not just for swimming.
